David Jones Beauty Book

I always get excited about David Jones Beauty Book. They have some incredible specials and GWP. This year is no exception.

While it isn't as amazing (in my opinion) as last year, there are still some great specials. You can see it here

My picks are....

David Jones Heritage Tote
Whenever you purchase any beauty products from DJs you can get their Deluxe Sampler Tote for only $19.95. It is such a great bargain and is fantastic for trialing new products. It is valued at over $96 and there are two to choose from.

Estee Lauder GWP
This is such a great GWP since you get to pick what is included. I love these since you can pick skincare or colours based on your need and likes. While I won't be getting it, it is still amazing value!

Jurlique Skin Care GWP
Jurlique always have incredible specials. When you purchase two skincare items you get a 3 (full sized) piece GWP valued at $175. It contains their Wrinkle Softening Cream, Daily Exfoliating Cream(which I adore!) and Purely Age Defying Eye Cream.

Natio GWP
Natio ALWAYS have amazing GWP. This one is no exception. Purchase $35 and over and you get a 5 piece set. I love the pressed bronzer/highlighter. I use it and love the pink highlighter as a blush and the bronzer as an eye shadow. It also comes in the cutest box!

Rimmel GWP
Spend $20 or more and get a 5 piece nail polish set. This is such a great GWP since the polishes are worth nearly $30!

What are your favourite? Is there any that you will be getting?

Rave: Jurlique Daily Exfoliating Cream

This is one of my favourite things at the moment! I always get so excited to use it each morning. And I am so excited to tell you about it.

Jurlique is one of my favourite brands. They have beautiful products, that have quality ingredients and they don't test on animals.

Their Daily Exfoliating Cream is fantastic since it is has no harsh grains that will upset sensitive skin. It is soft enough for everyday use, and makes your skin feel soft and silky after each use. What I love is that it doesn't make my skin red afterwards. Some exfoliators make my skin a bit red and sensitive, but this one is so nourishing I don't have to worry. I have found my skin looks clearer since I've been using it.

It cleans the skin, while also buffing away dead skin cells by oats and almonds. Honey and Macadamia Oil helps to keep your skin moisturised.

Anyone who has sensitive skin, or dry skin will love this!

Have you tried this? Or have you tried a daily exfoliating cream?

If you sweat in summer, switch to a mens facial moisturiser. Many of them are made for sweaty faces, and will help to minimise facial sweating - which can ruin your make up!

Hair Dare! Day 7

Todays hair was something I hadn't tried before. It is quite simple, but looks like you put in a lot of effort. The great thing about a hairstyle like this is that it can go from day to night and still look good. It doesn't matter if it is a bit messy.

I really liked the hair dare. It can sometimes be annoying because some days it is just easier to do a plain pony tail, but it really helps you to get out of your comfort zone.

I would love to do another dare. I might try a lip dare, where I have to wear a different colour every day, a clothes dare.

Is anyone else planning on doing the hair dare?

Tip Of The Day

Make sure your eye brows aren't too light or dark after colouring your hair a new colour. You might find you need to tint them to make them stand out a bit more and frame your eyes. Or they might be too dark for your new lighter colour.

Hair Dare! Day 6

Since today was a cleaning day, my hair is very simple. Just in a messy bun with a headband to pull my fringe, and any short hairs, back off my face.

Hope everyone is having a good Saturday, (or if you are overseas, have a great Friday tomorrow!)

How To Look After Your Perfume

We all know we need to keep our perfume away from direct sunlight and away from heat. It is best to keep it in a dry, cool place. A great place to put it is in a box upright or closet.

Here are some other things you should know...

Because your bathroom will get humid, don't keep the perfume in there.

Don't shake the perfume.

Don't keep your perfume in the fridge. Fluctuating temperatures can also affect the quality of the perfume.

Keep the lid on the perfume. Air will evaporate the perfume if you keep the lid off.

Rollerballs may seem like an easy way of applying perfume, but contact with your skin means that oils from your skin will be transferred back into the rollerball, which will change the quality of the scent.

The scent deteriorates quicker when exposed to light and heat, which means you will waste perfume if you store it incorrectly.

Keep your perfume in a glass bottle. If you change it into a plastic atomiser, the perfume can slowly dissolve the plastic and change the scent of the perfume.

Never buy used, opened or tester perfumes. You don't know how long they have been opened for and the conditions they were kept in.

What is your favourite perfume?

Hair Dare! Part 5

Today I was going to do an up do, but my hair took FOREVER to dry (I was air drying it.) So by the time it was dry it was already 3pm!! So todays look is just very simple. Air dried with a little bit of leave in conditioner and shine serum. Tomorrow I am trying a completely new hair style, so check back and see how it went :)

Coconut Water For Your Skin

Last night I stumbled upon a sentence about the wonders of coconut water on our skin. We all know water is great for our skin. If you are dehydrated, your body struggles to release toxins and therefore it can build up and makes its way out of other organs, like your skin. Coconut water can make your skin look healthy because it boosts blood circulation.

What I didn't realise is that it's also great to apply to the skin. You can use coconut water as a facial "mask." Just apply to your skin and let it rest for 5-15 minutes, then wash off. Otherwise you can use it daily to wash your skin. Coconut water not only cleanses, it also tones your skin. If your skin is oily, you can also add grapefruit or pineapple juice to the coconut water, for added benefits.

It has also been said coconut water is great for blackheads, acne, acne scars and wrinkles.

Has anyone used coconut water to wash their face? Is anyone tempted to try it out?

Hair Dare! Day 4

Yay! I finally got to do the waterfall braid today. It was the first time I had tried it and it was super easy. I washed my hair today and didn't want to do much styling, so I just put in some leave in conditioner and a bit of argan oil to help with flyaways. My hair is still wet here as I just air dried it but was too impatient to wait until it had fully dried.

I really like the waterfall braid. This will probably become a staple hairstyle of mine now.

Are you a fan of of it?

My Favourite Australian Brands

Because today is Australia Day, I'm doing a special Australian themed post. There are some amazing Australian brands that are just as good, if not better than overseas brands.

Here are a few of my favourites...

Natio
Natio are a fantastic natural skincare and make up line. They have some beautiful gift packs that not only look good, but are fantastic value. I really love their "Paw Paw Lip Balm", "Rosehip Oil" and the "Skin Brightening Face Balm".

O&M
I've only just recently fallen in love with O&M. They have a Ammonia Free Hair colour and try to keep their products "clean" and free from nasty chemicals. I love their hair masks. Their "Seven Day Miracle Masque" and "Power Base" protein mask are fantastic for dry and damaged skin. They also smell amazing!

Jurlique
If you want to go to buy skincare and have a great experience, Jurlique is a fantastic place to go. They have great customer service and their staff really know their stuff. Their website is great as you can complete a survey and they will let you know what products are best for your skin. They really care about the environment and currently have 95% of their products are recyclable. I love their Jasmine range and "Love Balm."

ModelCo
ModelCo was started back in 2008 by a model agent. She was surrounded by models and make up artists and wanted to create beauty products that women want but can't find. She came up with a heated eyelash curler and the first tan in a can. I love their lip glosses. They are incredible! So glossy, moisturising and long lasting.

Napoleon Perdis
Napoleon is probably one of Australia's most famous make up brands that is sold here and also in the US. It has become so well known because Napoleon knows make up, and his wife and brother knows business. They released their "sister" NP Set which is great if you are on a budget. I love their "Luminous Lip Veil" Lip Glosses and their "Blush Patrol."

What is your favourite Australian brand or product?

Hair Dare! Day 3

Today I was supposed to try the waterfall braid, but from the photo you can see that I didn't. A few things stopped me. Firstly my hair is quite oily and having it down just looked terrible. Secondly I didn't want to just a style for a photo and then put it up. It is supposed to be the hair I have all day.

Sydney is horrible at the moment. It is so wet and humid, so I knew I didn't want my hair down today. Also I worked out today and it was easier to do a ponytail and add a bow for some extra girlishness and colour against my black workout clothes.

Tomorrow I will either do the waterfall braid or maybe beachy hair since it is Australia day.

Glossybox January 2012

Well, this is quite late compared to most of the other bloggers, but I just received my box this morning. What is different is 2 of the contents. So read ahead for something new....

Nivea "Rich Nourishing Body Moisturiser" (30ml)
It is for dry skin and is one of Nivea's best selling moisturisers for the body. It contains almond oil and vitamin E to mositurise the skin. The size is very cute and I'll probably use it in my handbag as a hand moisturiser and just refill the bottle.

I actually have a full bottle of this under my bathroom sink, and I really don't like it (which is why it is hardly used and is hidden under the sink). It's the moisturiser I use when I am desperate and don't have another one. I have found it is really greasy, but after an hour or so my skin feels dry again. I find all Nivea moisturisers feel this way on my skin, so I've never been a fan of them. But it is a huge seller, so it works great for others!

Sheer Cover "Nourishing Moisturiser" (30ml)
I have never tried Sheer Cover, but have seen their commercials on TV a lot. It contains SPF 15 and is oil free. I normally don't like trying new moisturisers but am excited to try this! I like that it is oil free, so hopefully I won't have a reaction, like I can get with some skincare.

Sheer Cover "Pink Praline"Lip Gloss (2.69gm)
This is probably my most favourite thing in the box. I love lip glosses, and my colour is a gorgeous pink called "Pink Praline." They help moisturise your lips and add some colour. This is a full size product that is normally $19.95.

Sally Hansen ""Petal Pusher Insta-Dri Fast Nail Colour" (9.17ml)
This is another full size product, that is $13.95. It is a gorgeous pale pink that is perfect for a "nude" look or to do a french manicure. I really like Sally Hansen polishes, so I can't wait to try this, as I haven't tried any polishes from the Insta-Dri range ( I normally get the Hard as Nails Polishes).

Estee Lauder "Advanced Night Repair Synchronised Recovery Complex" (7ml)
This is more of a deluxe sample size. I don't actually use anything from EL. It is a serum that helps to diminish the signs of aging. It helps promote smoother and healthier looking skin. I am not a huge fan of trying new serums, as I have had some shocking reactions to them in the past. I love "Ultraceuticals Eventone Serum" and will just stick with that.

I thought it was a good box, and am looking forward to using the Sheer Cover products and also the Sally Hansen Nail Polish. I like that there was a bit of everything in the box. Some make up, skincare and nails.

Now there were two things I had an issue with this month. It took 7 business days to get my box. I live in Sydney, so it wasn't like it had to go far. There are quite a few people that are still waiting for their box and they live interstate. Considering it is a public holiday tomorrow, they will have to wait a few more days. I saw a few people on Facebook were bagging Australia Post, but I think it is unfair. I ordered something from Willow Wellness on Sunday afternoon (the 22nd Jan) and it was delivered today (Wednesday 25th Jan) by Australia post. It wasn't even express post, and it also came from Sydney. Australia Post are fantastic! And my postman is AWESOME, so I just wanted to defend them because they do great work. I saw on YouTube that a girl got sent a free GB box to do a review on, and she had hers before myself and a lot of other people that PAY to get the box. I think if they want to send out free boxes, that is fine, but maybe send it out AFTER your customers have their box.

My second issue was that they decided to personalise their boxes this month. I LOVE that they did, but found the way they personalised it wasn't the best. Anyone 26 and over got the box I did. We were given the EL anti aging sample because GB consider us "older." Now, I personally am not interested in anti aging. In my beauty profile I specifically DID NOT pick anti aging as a skin concern so I wouldn't get anti aging products. But because they chose age instead of skin concern, I got the sample. Now I love the idea of personlised boxes, but age isn't a good choice. I'm sure there were 22 year olds that would have loved the anti aging sample. But hopefully in the future age won't be considered a "profile." I would hate to miss out on a cool "trendy" product because I am "older." This grandma likes what the cool kids like too! ;)

So overall I am happy with my box! I am sad I missed out on the blue eyeliner (which looked soooooo cool) but the box was great value for $15. I am excited to see what is instore for next month since it is Valentines Day.

Gorgeous Hair Colour Commandments

This could be you!! Just insert
your face into the picture ;)

You can spend a LOT on colour. Whether it is just a touch up or a complete colour overhaul, it is important to make sure the colour looks glossy and lasts.

Here are the commandments on getting and keeping colour gorgeous...

Get a cut before your colour
Split ends will only show up more on highlights, so it is important to get a trim to get rid of them.

Day old hair is good!
If you are getting your hair coloured, wash it the day beforehand. If you wash it on the day, your hair will be too clean and it will mess around with the colour. The same with too dirty hair. Use a clarifying shampoo to get rid of any product build up.

Be realistic
To have gorgeous colour your hair needs to be in good condition. Going from black to platinum blonde will just ruin it. So be realistic on the colour you can get. There is no point in being a platinum blonde if your hair will break and fall out.

Bring in pictures to show your hairdresser
Anytime you are going for something new or different, always bring in pictures. Then the hair dresser knows the exact colour, cut and style you are wanting.

DIY properly
DIY colouring can be great, BUT you need to follow the instruction. And ALWAYS make sure you have enough colour. If your hair is long and you are colouring it for the first time, always use 2 boxes.

Listen to the hairdressers recommendations
They will give you great styling advice, so listen to what products they recommend. You might not think a toner is important, but you will when your blonde turns brassy. Or you will wish you bought that red shampoo when your hair colour is fading.

Treat your hair
Regardless if your hair is visually damaged or not, buy a treatment mask that you can put in your hair once a week to help it remain glossy. The good thing is, it doesn't have to be expensive. You can still pick up a good mask at Priceline or the supermarket.

Don't over wash your hair
The quickest way to lose colour is by washing it too much.

Protect your hair colour
When out in the sun, either put in a hair sunscreen or cover up with a hat to stop sun damage affecting your hair colour.

And lastly, apply a serum or gloss spray to make it shine. But don't go OTT or it will just look greasy!

Do you have any good tips for keeping hair colour looking great?

Hair Dare! Day 2

Today was a bit insane so I was sad that I didn't get enough time to really put effort in. Of course my daughter woke the moment I got out of the shower. So I was only able to do a messy tucked under bun. Luckily this is a great style for day old hair. And because Sydney has been miserable and has been raining, a messy up do is perfect for the weather.

Tomorrow I am thinking of trying the waterfall braid. I love braids, but have never tried the waterfall before. So check back tomorrow to see if I had any success.... If my hair is styled differently, you know it was unsuccessful!

Rave: O & M The Power Base

For christmas I was generously given a O & M pack that had their detangler, a thickening spray and their protein mask.

What I love about the protein mask is that it also moisturises. I've tried quite a few protein masks previously, and they normally dry out my hair. But because this one has sweet almond oil in it, it hydrates and makes your hair feel soft and smooth. To help strengthen the hair it contains soy and silk protein.

The great thing about this mask is that it doesn't have any off putting or chemical smell. Like most O & M products, it smells really yummy.

I normally apply this for 10 minutes to really let my it soak into my hair. Whenever I have used this I find that my hair doesn't need a detangler afterwards, since it is so soft and silky.

I like to alternate the protein mask with their "Seven Day Miracle Moisture Masque."

Have you tried their protein mask before?

Hair Dare! Part 1

Twist and curl

Over at Fox In Flats they surveyed 150 mums and found that so many of them put their hair up in a pony most of the time because it is simple and easy. When you have children having a shower without interruptions is hard. Getting to also do make up and hair is sometimes impossible.

Last week I saw on Glossy Beauty that the gorgeous Ingrid did the hair challenge and I was so inspired to do it too. Her hairstyles were cute but some were also simple but different, because some days you just can't be bothered to spend 40 minutes curling or straightening your hair.

So today is my first day in the hair dare. Because I washed it today, I decided to leave it down. Because my daughter was having her morning sleep I was lucky enough to get to curl my hair! I twisted the front sections when they were still wet (because I was too impatient for them to dry) and then towel dried the rest and used my Remington "Purfect Curl" Wand to create the curls then brushed them out to be softer curls.

Is anyone else tempted to try the hair dare this week or next?

Safety In Nail Bars and Salons

I love getting manicures and pedicures, but they are pricey and it's hard for me to have time to myself to get one. Not to mention we have all heard horror stories about infected nails, which is bound to turn anyone off getting one!

So what safety issues should you look out for? Here are some tips on things that should make you run from the room if you see them...

Look around the salon to make sure it is hygenic and clean. If nail clippings are left on the floor or the shop looks messy, go somewhere else.

Due to the chemicals, the salon should be well ventilated.

Both you and the nail technition should wash your hands before starting and after finishing. Just because they might wear gloves, it doesnt mean their hands are clean.

Make sure they don't have any skin conditions that can infect you. Also don't go to a salon if you have a hand or foot infection.

Make sure they steralise their equipment before using it on you. This includes foot baths.

If you are ever worried, bring your own tools, or just DIY at home.

Don't get the cuticles cut. Just push back, or leave them alone. You can fix it up at home if you are concerned about infections.

A manicure or pedicure shouldn't be painful. Tell the technician straight away. A manicure or pedicure shouldn't make you bleed either. Your risk for infection is huge once they cut into your skin.

If you have time, watch another customer get it done. Watch if they clean the footspa, reuse the same (dirty) instruments and wash their hands. Make sure they never reuse water or towels to another customer.

If you are pregnant, stay away from nail bars. Due to the chemicals and risk of infection, it is just safer to DIY, your if can't see your toes anymore, get a friend to do it for you. If you really want to go to one, make sure you bring your own tools, ask to be in the most ventilated part of the room or wear a mask.

Nails should be filed in only one direction. Otherwise you will weaken and damage your nail.

Have you ever had a horror story from a nail bar or salon? The only problem I have ever had is that they always cut them too short :(

How To Wear Red Make Up

Photographer: Williams Bonbon
Hair + Make Up: Loriane Leger

As amazing as this photo is, it isn't really real life appropriate for a lot of us. Most workplaces have strict clothing policies, so you'll have to keep a look like this for after hours. Here are some things to keep in mind if you want to rock red...

Even out your skin tone
Make sure you have an even complexion, otherwise you will just look sunburnt. If you have a natural red or pink undertone, a red shadow will just make it more visible.

For your eyes ...

Prep the lids
Make sure you prep the lids with primer. If the eye shadow is highly pigmented, it can stain your skin if you don't wear a primer.

Be careful where you apply the eye shadow
It's better to apply it in the middle and on the outer corner of the eye. If you put it on the inner corners, it will make your eyes look bloodshot. Also make sure the colour is vibrant. If you choose a sheer colour, you will just make your eyes look tired and bloodshot. Only use eye shadows, not lipstick or blush on the eyes, since they aren't made for the eye area.

Make sure you use black mascara and eyeliner
This will help to define the eyes.

For your cheeks ...

Be careful where you apply your blush
If you apply red onto your cheeks, make sure you apply it lightly onto the cheekbones. If you apply onto the apples of your cheeks, you might end up looking like a clown.

For your lips ...

Exfoliate your lips
Since red is so vibrant and noticeable, make sure you exfoliate your lips. There is nothing worse than dried lips, except very noticeable dry lips.

Create a barrier
Either use a lip pencil or blend concealer along the edge of your lips to create a border.

You need perfect application
Since red has such an impact against skin, you need to make sure that it is applied perfectly. Check out the "Y" technique here for perfect application of lip gloss and lipstick.

Use powder
After applying one coat, dust your lips lightly with translucent powder then do another layer of lip gloss or lip stick. This will help it to stay put and not bleed.

Keep everything else simple
Whether you highlight your eyes or lips keep the rest simple, especially for day use.

What is your favourite red product?
I love the OCC Lip Tar in "NSFW."

Just Got A New Hair Cut And Don't Know How To Style It?

Getting a new hair cut can be exciting (but also scary)! Once the newness has worn off, you are sometimes left with hair that is much different to style than you previous had.

Here are some ideas on how to style your hair to make everyday a little bit different...

 Pixie or Crop Cut
Even though you don't have too much hair, there is a lot you can do with it! Use different types of wax and gel to get a different look. Play around with the texture of your hair. You can have it smooth or choppy to get a different effect.  Headbands and clips are a cute way of adding a girly twist on short hair. You can do a quiff if your fringe is long enough to give it more edge. You can also sweep a longer fringe to the side. Otherwise play around with your parting to change it up. If you love having short hair but want a change, use highlights or lowlights to give a bit more depth to the hair cut. Wear gorgeous earrings and necklaces since more skin is on display.

Bob
Since you have more hair to play around with, you can start to use styling tools to either make your hair straight, or curly. Use a small hair curler to curl the ends, or apply a sea salt spray or curl enhancer to make it more wavy. You can also start to put in small plaits and twists into the hair. Pining your hair back from your face is great for a hot day or if you are working out/playing sport. Continue to use clips, headbands and even scarves in your hair for more colour.

Lob
The Lob is one of the most versatile cuts you can have. It is long enough to be put into a ponytail, can be braided/plaited and looks great up or down, but isn't too long to be a pain. Having a blunt lob can look so chic. Play around with your parting to change it up. You can also incorporate a sweeping fringe for something different, include a few layers for more texture or have it longer at the front so your hair still frames your face.

What is your favourite "short hair" look?

Make Up Tips For Photography

If you are planning on doing make up to take pictures of, there are some important things to know.

Make sure your base is clean
Always cleanse, tone and moisturise first. Using an exfoliator will also make your skin look smoother. Apply a primer to make your base stay flawless.

Apply the right foundation
If you suffer from shiny skin, make sure you use a matte cream or liquid foundation.

Blending is key
Make sure you blend your foundation well, especially around the hairline and around your chin and neck to avoid the foundation looking like a mask.

Some foundations shouldn't be used for photography
SPF in some foundations can make you look white and washed so keep this in mind when choosing your base. Using tinted moisturisers with high SPF is the worst base to use for making your skin look white.

Also if you are using professional lights, make sure your foundation is long lasting and sweat proof. Or if you are taking pictures outside in the heat, bring oil blotting papers.

Don't forget your neck, shoulders and chest
If you are wearing spaghetti straps, check out your chest and shoulders to make sure there is no blemishes or tan lines. Either use foundation or tanner to even skin tone.

Apply powder
Depending on your skin type, and how much coverage you want, apply either a pressed powder or a translucent powder.

Heavier make up for flash photography
You may find that you need to apply your make up slightly heavier for photos. Blush and bronzer is great as it gives your skin more colour and stops it looking washed out.

Sparkles can make you shine...but not in a good way
Be careful when applying make up with sparkles as the flash from the camera can make it look shiny.

Here is a great blog post from Ingrid on flattering photo angles you should all check out! :)

How To Do A Spa Pedicure

It is always so nice to go to a spa and get a pedicure, but sometimes it's just easier to DIY. Here are some tips on getting a spa quality pedicure at home.

Take off any existing nail polish
Remove any nail polish you already have on your nails. File your nails straight in one direction. If you see-saw, it will damage the nail. Slightly round the edges.

Soak your feet
Fill a large bowl/tub with half warm water and half with whole milk. The lactic acid in milk helps to exfoliate your feet. If you have cuticle oil, apply to toes then soak your feet for 5 minutes.

Push back your cuticles
Remove your feet from the bowl/tub and gently push back the cuticles with a wooden stick on both feet.

Smooth your feet with a foot file
With a foot file, scrub the heels and the balls of your feet and the bottom of your toes. A foot file is much better to use than a pumice stone, since bacteria can get trapped in the pumice stone. Wash your feet then apply a moisturiser.

Apply your polish
It is best to separate the toes to paint them but not essential. Apply a basecoat, to stop your nails from turning yellow from the polish. Then apply two coats of colour followed by a topcoat. The topcoat will keep your colour from chipping quickly and make it glossy.

What are your tips for the perfect pedicure?

Rave: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

In this months Bellabox, which you can read here, I received a sachet of First Aid Beauty "Ultra Repair Cream."

I haven't used their products before so I didn't really have expectations of the brand or the moisturiser. The good thing about the moisturiser is that it doesn't contain parabens, phthalates or colourants. It is for intense repair and is a antioxidant booster.

You can use it as a face or body moisturiser. I normally don't use face and body creams on my face for 2 reasons. My skin is more on the oily side, so I find it odd to put something on my face that is supposed to hydrate your body too. And secondly, they are normally heavy and will just clog my pores. So I just used this on my body.

As a body moisturiser I LOVED it. It makes you skin so soft and hydrated. It's perfect for your legs if you shave. Even hours later, my skin still felt silky.

The only thing I didn't like, was I only got to use it once. It would have been great to have 2 or 3 sachets so I could use it for a few days and see if it continues to hydrate. I will definitely order this from Bellabox once I have finished my moisturiser.

Has anyone else used theirs? Did you like it?

Tip Of The Day

To give the illusion of a smaller nose, run highlighter down the bridge (middle part) of the nose and back up again. This makes the sides of your nose look sightly darker, and smaller. Set with translucent powder.

Coloured Eyeliner

This post is for Jessiegirl. She asked "What are some good ideas on how to wear violet eyeliner?"

Eyeliners are fantastic to help make your eyes POP! It can also make a simple eye shadow look more interesting and new.

Most people tend to stick to more neutral tones like...

Black
Most people use black liner. It is a staple because it looks great with black lashes and is the colour to do a winged eye with. If you are quite pale it can sometimes seem too dark. If your eyes are small, black will just make them look even smaller.

Brown
Browns are much more softer. They are great if you are pale, or have small eyes. I love brown for an everyday look. It can look so nice if you are doing a bronze smokey eye, or like to wear brown mascara.

White
White helps to open up your eyes. Sometimes you can get away with just a thin line on the lash line with a neutral shadow + mascara. Lining your bottom lash line is great for opening them up. And because white goes with any colour, you can go crazy with the rest of your eyes.

But if you want to experiment with colour, there are certain colours that work better with your eye colour.

Blue eyes suit browns, bronze, taupe, grey, purple and blue liner.
Brown eyes suit champagne, copper, bronze, khaki and beige liner.
Green and Hazel eyes suit purple, bronze brown and gold liner.

And the good news is that charcoal, silver and navy suit everyone.

You can even do two bright tones. But this is not a wallflower look. If you have a bright personality, you can pull this off.

If you have never used a bright eyeliner before, start off subtle. Just line the top lash line with a fine line. Do your eye make up first to see if you need bronzer/blush/lipstick. Sometimes a bright colour can make you feel like you are wearing a lot of make up, so you want to keep the rest of your face neutral until you feel comfortable with the bright eyeliner. As you feel more comfortable you can make the line thicker and also line your lower lash line. If you have small eyes, try using lighter colours or you will make your eyes appear even smaller.

If you are lining inside the lid (or waterline as some beauty buffs call it), make sure you buy a long lasting and waterproof one. Lining the inside it great for a subtle look also. But I would stay away from this if you have sensitive eyes.

Whether you decide to stick with a similar eye shadow or a contrasting one is completely up to you. It really depends on how confident you feel with bright eyes. But the colour combinations are endless!

Are you a fan of coloured eyeliner?

Super Hair Haul

Yesterday I found the bargain of the century!! I was at my local shopping center and passed "Oz Hair" and they had a huge special on brands such as "Sexy Hair," "Schwarzkopf" and "Phyto Organics."

Here is what I got....

Sexy Hair "Chocolate Soy Milk" Shampoo and Conditioner (Was originally $22.00 each)
OMG this smells DELICIOUS! I felt like I am at the "Lindt" chocolate factory when I smell it. Its so so chocolious! It is sulfate free and safe for coloured hair. It is apart of their "Healthy Sexy Hair" range.

Sexy Hair "Strengthening" Shampoo and Conditioner (was originally $22.00 each)
This is apart of their "Strong Sexy Hair" range. It helps to improve the strength of your hair, which is prefect for me since bleaching my hair has made it prone to breakage. It has a gorgeous sweet and fruity smell.

Sexy Hair "Pumpkin Rehydrating" Shampoo and Conditioner ( was originally $31.50 for the shampoo and $33.50 for the conditioner)
This is apart of their "Healthy Sexy Hair" range. It smells almost spicy. It isn't as nice as the chocolate or fruity smell, but hopefully it will make my hair nice and soft and smooth.. Pumpkins are great since they have natural antioxidants and enzymes. If you haven't tried a pumpkin facial before, you are missing out on an amazing DIY mask. Here is the recipe.

Sexy Hair "Pumpkin Enzyme Therapy Mist" (normally $26.95)
I LOVE leave in conditioners, especially mists/spray. Because it has pumpkin in it, it is great for your hair. You can either use it as a light conditioner on oily or fine hair, or (after conditioning) onto dry hair if you have really dry and damaged hair. It is apart of the "Healthy Sexy Hair" range.

Sexy Hair "Plaster" (I'm not sure how much this normally is)
I bought this for my hubby since it makes me feel not so guilty for spending lots of money on only me ;) It is a shaping balm that is a strong hold. You can apply it to either damp or dry hair and it supposed to hold all day.

Sexy Hair "Curling Detangler" (normally $27.95)
This is a leave in conditioner and detangler that is for curly hair. It is moisturising but not heavy, so it won't weigh hair down. It also contains protein to help the condition of your hair.

Schwarzkopf "Seah Hairspa Blossom Masque" (normally $34.95)
This is a mask for coloured hair. The tub says that it is for daily luxury. I haven't used this range before.

Schwarzkopf "Seah Hairspa Pearl Masque" (it didn't have a price, but I'm guessing it is also $34.95)
This is for "sophisticated hair," whatever that means! It helps to put moisture back into hair and make it shine.

Phyto Organics Resilient Alcohol Free Finishing Spray (normally $39.95)
This is from the brand Nexus. It is a holding spray that is natural. They don't test on animals or use animal products. It also includes ingredients to help nourish and protect from UV rays and heat styling.

How much do you think I paid for these 12 items? For over $300 I just paid $36!!! How incredible is that! These are all salon brands so they are definitely good quality. I think they are just trying to get rid of them because they have been discontinued. (I couldn't see the Sexy Hair products on their website).

Have you used any of these? Whats been your biggest bargain?

PS I'll update a picture later.

Tip Of The Day

If you have a large forehead (and don't want to have a fringe) use a matte bronzer to dust from temple to temple and then in circles to blend. Bronzing contours the shape of the forehead to give the illusion of being smaller. Make sure it isn't a shimmer bronzer or it will just make your forehead look larger!

Rave: Kerastase Elixir Ultime

This is one of the most amazing hair products I have ever tried!! Such a huge call, but it is the most amazing oil for your hair. I have a love/hate relationship with Moroccan/argon oil. I love that it is good for my hair, but it always makes it greasy and weighs my fine hair down. So I normally either use it at night as a treatment oil or if I know I'm not going out I will put a lot in my hair and have it in a bun all day then wash it out the next day.

With this I don't have that problem! I put anywhere from 2-4 pumps into my hair and then brush it through. I end up with gorgeous soft hair that isn't greasy or lank. If I have applied a bit too much I just brush my hair and it is fine.

I used to love Redken "Smooth Down" Heat Glide for soft smooth hair, but you need to use heat for it. It's a hair protectant that makes your hair soft even after straightening. But what I love about this is I don't need to use heat styling.

You can use it before washing your hair, so it protects your hair. It can be a leave in treatment for after washing your hair. And you can use it to rehydrate your hair after styling it.

It has incredible ingredients that include important vitamins such as A, E and F. It also has omega 3, 6 and 9.

If you haven't tried it go out and do it NOW! The 50ml is $24.95 or the 125ml is $48.95 (prices are Australian RRP).

Celebrity Hair Crush: Charlize Theron

I've been seeing a lot of ads for the new Charlize theron movie"Young Adult." Now I can't tell you what the movie is about, but I can tell you her hair looks divine!

I'm having such a hair crush that I am so tempted to cut my hair. The hair that I've been growing for 2 years! The one that is only about 5 centimeters away from my perfect length.

And there she is on the red carpet for the premiere.

If you are tempted to get your hair cut like this there are a few products you need....

Sea Salt Spray
Sea Salt Spray will give your hair waves (not curls) for a beach babe look. O&M and David Babaii do great sprays.

Hair serum/shine
Since you have cut off all the dead bottom length, you can let the healthy hair shine through....but sometimes it is great to have a little bit of help to make it shiner.

Hairspray
Hairspray is such a great styling tool to use. It helps an updo stay in place, makes cowlicks stay down and helps to give your hair long lasting curls

Volumising Spray/mousse
This is great for fine haired girls. You will suddenly look like you have twice as much hair! It will also make your curls last longer if you use a mousse.

Dry Shampoo
Dry Shampoo is amazing for any type of hair. For fine hair it can give volume and for oily hair it can get rid of the grease factor. It is perfect for the time poor that don't have time to wash their hair before work or before a night out.

Are you wanting to do something radical to your hair?

Tip Of The Day

When applying concealer to a blemish, use a brush instead of your fingers. One reason is to limit bacteria transferring from your finger to your face. The other reason is a brush will get into the crevices of a blemish much better than your finger will.

Australis Haul

A little while ago I was looking on the Australis website at their Paparazzi Perfect HD (PPHD) products as I was interested in trying them to see how well they photograph for my blog. In certain lights the camera picks up bumps and red undertones that you don't see in your bathroom mirror (Especially mine since it isn't a great camera :/). So these products are supposed to give you a flawless base that photographs well under any light.

So off I went to the shops to try them out. I was a bit disappointed that the PPHD foundation was slightly too dark for my pale skin. I really wanted to try it, but didn't want to waste $20 on something that is the wrong colour just so I can see how it photographs. So instead I ended up looking at their "Pressed Powder." This is a nice light coverage powder with a matte finish.

They also had their eye primer there which I also got. I have never used an eye primer, so I am really excited to use it. I have a deep crease line, so I was hoping this will hide it. I will do a update on it so you can see the difference. I have used it a few times and found it was amazing.

I also picked up their 3-in-1 wipes. This removes your make up while also toning and moisturising your skin. I bought these so I can keep them on my bedside table and then I will never have an excuse for not taking my make up off at night. I like that it is fragrance free and alcohol free so it won't dry out my skin like some make up wipes do.

They had a special promotion on at the time, which was that when you spent $25 or more you get a free brow kit. It is absolutely adorable! It contains a brow wax, powder, brush and tweezers. I don't know if they still have the offer on anymore. But according to their website it is available while stock lasts at Priceline, Target and Big W.

Have you tried Australis products? What is your favourite one?
