First Impressions: Maybelline "Stay Super 24hr Waterproof Powder" Review

Monday 5 August 2013

Recently Maybelline release the Stay Super 24hr Waterproof Powder here in Australia. It was one of those products that didn't have a huge lead up to it. I actually didn't hear about it until I saw Jodi from Goo Roo Beauty mentioned it in one of her videos.

I was really lucky that I picked this up as it was the very last one on the shelf. There are 3 colours (Ivory, Nude and Sand) and I picked up Ivory, which is the lightest colour.

One of the most interesting things about this powder is that it's waterproof. I don't know about you, but I don't wear make up when I go swimming so I didn't buy it for that.

What I did think that it would be great for is the fact that it would still look good even if I get rained on (it's very wet here in Adelaide lately) and also the fact that it would be great in summer when you get sweaty in the heat (Adelaide also gets very hot in summer!). It's supposed to also help with shine control, which is great for oily skin, or hot days.

It has a 24hr formula, but I haven't tested it out. I'm happy for my foundation to look good from 9am to 9pm, anything else is just wasted as I'll just wash it off.

The only thing that I was worried about with the waterproof formula is that a setting spray wouldn't work (since it's water like). Because it's a powder that has coverage it's easy to accidentally apply too much and for it to become chalky and powdery.

Luckily when I tested the Skindinavia Make Up Finishing Spray, it worked perfectly, and left my skin with a dewy finish.

I love the packaging. It's in a compact that has a mirror and comes with a make up pad/sponge. It's great for on the go touch ups.

The one thing that I don't like is the price. For $18.95 it only contains 9gms, so I feel like I would use this quite quickly if I use it every day. Compare that to the Rimmel Stay Matte powder that has 14gms for only $5 less.

I'd also love to see this released in a translucent "colour" since the colour range is very limited if you have quite pale or quite dark skin.

Have you used this before? Have you ever gone swimming in your make up?
XO

  1. Like you I was surprised about the whole waterproof aspect of this product. I think it must be to give the impression that it has a lot of staying power. I do wear waterproof mascara every day, and I have gone swimming in make up, but I try not to put my face under. That might be asking too much of my make up :D. I'd be interested to see if this has better or longer lasting shine control for oily skin. I might look into getting this powder in the Summer time when I need that the most. Thanks for this review :)
