Beauty Blogging (Or Buying) On A Budget

Monday 13 April 2015

Shop the sales

No matter what way you shop (either instore or online), almost every store has sales. It might be weekly, fortnightly or just a handful of times every year.

If you have a small budget, just shop when the sales are on.

Here in Australia Priceline does 40% off days every 2-3 months, so waiting and saving up until a sale is on will save you money in the long run. Supermarkets are great as they do weekly beauty specials and you can pick up some great specials on both hair, skincare and make up.

Gift With Purchase

Most of the time I'll wait until certain brands have a GWP on instead of just buying their products instantly. Brands that do great GWP include

Napoleon Perdis
Clinique
Estee Lauder
Natio
ModelCo
Bourjois
Jurlique
SK-II
MOR
Lancome
Clarins
L'Occitane
Revlon

Stores that also do a great GWP include

Ry.com.au
Adore Beauty
David Jones sampler bag

The great thing about waiting is that most of these brands do a GWP every 2-3 months, so you won't have to wait long. If you're able to wait it out, you'll then get a GWP that can anything from a single product to a 5-9 piece set full of samples and full size products.

They will usually have either new products or their most popular products in their gift bags. It's a great way of being able to try out new products without having to buy them since they're free!

Sign up to brands rewards clubs

Depending where you shop, being apart of a rewards club can give you...

members only discounts
access to new products before the official launch
free samples
special deals on products
vouchers
invites to product launches and make overs

Follow brands on social media and sign up to their email lists

A lot of brands are very savvy about the importance of social media. We spend most of our day (slight exaggeration!) on facebook/instagram/twitter that businesses know they can promote sales via their social media accounts.

This means that you'll never miss out on their next sale.

Follow other bloggers and youtube channels

Bloggers and youtubers love to share their hauls, newest product launches and when their favourite shop is having a sale. So follow them on social media for updates.

Sign up to beauty boxes ... just don't sign up to them all!

The beauty boxes available here are anywhere from $15-$50 per month. They can be an affordable way of trying out new products inexpensively.

One of the drawbacks to beauty boxes is getting no say in what you get delivered or the colours/skin type they send you, sometimes you'll end up with products that you can't use.

Enter competions

As they say you've got to be in it to win it!

Enter competitions that either brands or businesses are hosting. Sometimes it's as easy as giving your name/email/address while other times you have to be witty and answer a question in 25 words or less.

Beauty websites like Primped and Beauty Heaven constantly have competitions going. Entering blogger and youtuber giveaways can also be great for scoring new products.

Shop your stash

If you're wanting new products but can't afford them, look into your cupboards and draws and you'll find some amazing products that you forgot about.

Find alternatives

While all the bloggers might be raving about the new Anastasia Liquid Lipsticks, you could blog about a liquid lipstick from another brand. No matter what the in thing is, you can always find another alternative. And who doesn't love a cheaper dupe!

Don't buy every single colour

I know how hard it is when a new range comes out and you want to buy them all... because it will look soooooo good in photos. But hold up... instead just buy one to three colours. This way you can still review the product, without having 23 of the same thing (just in different colours).

Link to reviews and swatches on other blogs

Linking to other bloggers reviews is a great way of getting your readers to still see the other colours available, without having to buy all 23 shades!

Hopefully these tips have helped you.

  1. Great tips!! Currently, I'm just buying one or two shades of particular new lip products such as the Maybelline lip pencils. I also try to sign up to trying samples through FB. I can't wait for David Jones Beauty Sampler bag!
