How To Do A Spa Pedicure

Friday 20 January 2012

It is always so nice to go to a spa and get a pedicure, but sometimes it's just easier to DIY. Here are some tips on getting a spa quality pedicure at home.

Take off any existing nail polish
Remove any nail polish you already have on your nails. File your nails straight in one direction. If you see-saw, it will damage the nail. Slightly round the edges.

Soak your feet
Fill a large bowl/tub with half warm water and half with whole milk. The lactic acid in milk helps to exfoliate your feet. If you have cuticle oil, apply to toes then soak your feet for 5 minutes.

Push back your cuticles
Remove your feet from the bowl/tub and gently push back the cuticles with a wooden stick on both feet.

Smooth your feet with a foot file
With a foot file, scrub the heels and the balls of your feet and the bottom of your toes. A foot file is much better to use than a pumice stone, since bacteria can get trapped in the pumice stone. Wash your feet then apply a moisturiser.

Apply your polish
It is best to separate the toes to paint them but not essential. Apply a basecoat, to stop your nails from turning yellow from the polish. Then apply two coats of colour followed by a topcoat. The topcoat will keep your colour from chipping quickly and make it glossy.

What are your tips for the perfect pedicure?

  5. These are great tips - I never spend enough time on my tootsies as I hate my feet; moisturising/exfoliating is about as far as I go. I should really show them some love!
