How To: Keep Your Colour Lasting Longer

Thursday 3 May 2012

Colouring your hair takes a lot of time, effort and money. So the last thing that you want to do is ruin all that by treating your hair colour poorly. With these tips, you'll keep your mane looking salon perfect every day!

Use the correct shampoo and conditioner
Make sure you use a shampoo that is for colour treated hair. Even better if it's made for your hair colour. These special formulated shampoos and conditioners help to stop colour from being stripped out. And the great thing is you don't need to spend a lot of money on them. There are some great supermarket brands that  do colour safe products.

Don't over wash your hair
Use dry shampoo to get an extra day out of your hair. The more you wash it, the quicker the colour (especially if it's semi permanent) will fade.

Protect your hair
Make sure you cover up your hair from the sun. It doesn't matter if you use a hat, scarf or sunscreen. And when I say sunscreen, I don't mean your face or body sunscreen, but a spray or cream that is for your hair. They help to coat the hair shaft and protect it from the sun. Also use them if you swim as they can help limit the damage chlorine has on your hair.

Look after the health of your hair
By using replenishing masks, taking vitamins and eating well you will keep your hair in great condition. When your hair is mangled and tangled, the colour won't hold as long.

Colour dirty hair
Make sure you apply dye to hair that's "dirty." If you haven't washed it for a day or two, you'll have natural oils which help to protect your hair.

Do you follow these tips, or are you a colour fade criminal?
