First Impressions: Maybelline Color Elixir Liquid Color Balm By Color Sensational (Swatches)

Monday 12 May 2014

UPDATED: Priceline have these exclusively! Get in quick as they'll be hard to get!!

I've seen so many US bloggers and youTubers talk about the new Maybelline Color Elixir Liquid Color Balms and knew after seeing them that I needed them in my life.

I was on the lookout, and last week I finally found them in the Priceline near my work.

I know the 2 city Priceline's in Adelaide (Gawler Place and Hindley St) don't stock these yet, along with the 2 Chemist Warehouses in the city. They're stocked in the Priceline Marion store as well as the Myer Center Priceline (although they were hiding away from the Maybelline counter in the city store).

I can't remember how many colours there were but there was between 9-12 (I think!). There are 20 colours available in the US. I picked up 3 colours.

"Fuschia Florish"

"Raspberry Rhapsody"

"Signature Scarlet"

When I first saw these on the stand I thought that they were lipsticks because of the packaging. The outer packaging is clear, so you can see the colour of the lipgloss.

At first they seem similar to the Rimmel "Apocalips" and the L'Oreal "Shine Caresse Lip Colour." I found the Rimmel Apocalips over hyped, and while I liked the L'Oreal Caresse, I don't use it often.

As you can see, the applicator is very flexible and the Raspberry Rhapsody is very bent. It doesn't effect the application.

 and Signature Scarlet

The great thing with these is the fact that they're glossy, colourful and are so easy to use.

You can apply one coat and have a wash of colour or apply 2-3 coats for bright lips. Each of these colours are so incredibly soft and smooth to apply.

After having them on my lips for 6 hours, I haven't needed to touch up or apply a lip balm. My lips still feel hydrated and haven't become dry or flaky.

They aren't kiss proof, but there's only a very small amount of transfer. I was able to eat and it didn't end up all over my face.

My favourite colour is Raspberry Rhapsody. I love purple on others, but it's one colour that I find difficult to wear. This colour is perfect for someone wanting to try a purple lip. It's not too bright and it's surprisingly wearable, even though it looks quite bright in the packaging.

After using these colours once each, I can say that they're the best release so far for 2014! They're worthy of the hype.

I'll be picking up more! I paid $13.95 each from Priceline. I'm not sure if that was on sale or not.

Will you be picking them up too?

  1. Ooh, I've heard so much about these too, I really want to give them a go. The shades you bought look gorgeous. I really hope that $13.95 is their regular price, because that's pretty decent!
