Lush Lips: My Favourite Lip Balms and Lip Scrubs

Tuesday 26 August 2014

Over winter my lips have become very VERY dry. So dry infact, that I haven't been able to wear lipstick!

Because I adore bright lipsticks, I've been working overtime to get my lips hydrated, soft and smooth.

Here are my favourite products that have gotten rid of my dry skin...

Nude By Nature Lemon Sugar Lip Scrub (limited edition online only)

I bought this back in June when Nude By Nature had a 40% off online sale (you can see my haul here).

It's quite a small tub, but you only need a small amount. It's a sugar scrub that taste sweet, but has a gorgeous lemon scent. The sugar gives you enough roughness to get rid of dead skin, but it doesn't have enough grit to hurt or damage your lips.

Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub*

This is a lip scrub that has more grit than the NBN one. It isn't in a gel like the NBN one is, so I use this more for when my lips are very dry. If my lips are feeling sensitive, then I'd use the NBN lip scrub.

While it's easy to make your own scrub, it's just so much more convenient to have one already made up and in its own little container.

I like to use both this lip scrub and the NBN one, followed by a warm cloth to get rid of any remaining sugar.

Lush have 2 other lip scrubs for those that prefer something sweet or minty.

Mecca Cosmetica Lip De-Luscious Overnight Lip Conditioner

This lip balm is my holy grail lip balm. It repairs even the driest lips. It has a hefty price tag at $32, but is worth every cent. It contains shea butter and vitamin E. It has a slightly oily feel, but isn't uncomfortable. It just makes your lips feel hydrated.

Even though this is targeted as a night balm, I still use this in the morning. There's a day version that contains SPF 25. I haven't used it, but it's on my wishlist. Because this is in a glass tub, I just keep this at home.

Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm

I bought this one after seeing so many bloggers rave about it. And after using it, I raved about it too.

It has a slight grainy feel to it, when you apply it on your lips.

While it does moisturise your lips, I would prefer to spend the extra $12 and get the Mecca lip balm as it hydrates my lips much faster and repairs them quicker.

Like the Mecca lip balm, it's in a glass tub. I keep this strictly at home.

Yes To Carrots Lip Butter

This lip balm is just a very simple, but hardworking lip balm. This is my handbag lip balm that's perfect for touch ups throughout the day.

This was in my Priceline skincare goodie bag. It's actually something I wouldn't have picked up, but now love!

Nivea Pure & Natural Milk & Honey Lip Balm*

This is another simple and plain lip balm that hydrates your lips. I love that it's gentle and doesn't have any obvious fragrance. I keep this in my skincare bag in my bathroom and apply this in the morning and/or night to give my lips a dose of moisture.

Nivea Fruity Shine in Pink Guava and Strawberry

After receiving the above Nivea lip balm, I then started to buy more from their range. I ended up buying quite a few as Priceline and Coles have both had them on special over the last 2 months. They're already inexpensive, but at 2 for $6 or even half price, they're an absolute bargain.

My 3 year old daughter is obsessed with the Fruity Shine lip balms, especially the Peach one (which is also my favourite) and stole it off me! She calls them "lips" and I need to hide them from her.

These gives you moisture, with a slight tint and a lot of shine. They also smell incredible.

Nude By Nature Mineral Lip Gloss in "Sultry"

I also bought this in my 40% off Nude By Nature order. I loved the original versions of these and the next generation is just as lovely.

These give you a huge amount of moisture and shine. If my lips are feeling particularly dry, I'll apply the Nivea Milk & Honey Lip Balm and then use this afterwards.

So those are my (not so) secret weapons when it comes to dealing with dry lips.

What do you reach for when your lips are drier than the Sahara?
Amy, XO

PS Don't forget to drink lots of water!! Dry lips can happen when you're dehydrated.

  4. The popcorn lip scrub is amazing ! I personally don't like mint so the mint one was not an option and the bubblegum one was just way too sweet for me. I have tried the Nivea Lipbalms, my favourite is the Hydrocare one.

  5. I have been so tempted by the Nuxe balms! I need to try that Mecca one, though!

I'm a huge fan of balms and have a stash of about 20 lying around all over. I used to have more so I'm quite happy I got that number down!

Off the top of my head, I love Carmex, Nivea (in the pots), 1 Skin Solution and OLIVE which I got in a previous beauty box subscription. Such moisturising balms.

    1. The Nuxe one is nice, but it's quite thick and a bit grainy so it's more of a night one or if you're at home. The Mecca one is worth the pricetag. It has a slightly oily feel, but leaves my lips so hydrated.

I love the Nivea lip butters and the 1 Skin Solution balms too. Their great.
