My Favourite Hydrating Lip Balms

Tuesday 19 May 2015

Lip balm is one of the most important steps in my beauty routine. When your lips are cracked, lipstick just doesn't look good.

Here are some of my favourite lip products that I reach for when my lips are dry or flaky.

Carmex Moisturising Lip Balm is one of the very first lipbalms that I ever bought. It's a lip balm that will always work for me no matter how badly chapped my lips are.

The first few times that you use it, you'll get tingly lips. It doesn't hurt or feel uncomfortable. After using it for a little while, you don't get that feeling anymore. I've bought so many of these over the last 15 years that I couldn't even tell you how many I've bought.

My holy grail, ride or die, lip balm is the Mecca Cosmetica Lip De-Luscious Overnight Lip Conditioner. This is a hardcore lip balm that will hydrate your "drier than the Sahara desert" lips.

It has a slightly oily feel, so it's not the lipbalm that you'd apply under a lipstick. I either apply this before going to bed or first thing in the morning so it can sink in and hydrate my lips before applying my make up.

While I love both of these, I'm really not a fan of the tub packaging.

The Go-To Skincare Lips! lip balm reminds me of the Mecca lip balm since it has a more oily feel. I really love that this lip balm is in a tube as I hate applying lip balm with my fingers.

It has some beautiful hydrating ingredients in it that will quickly turn my dry lips smooth. I keep this in my handbag for emergency lip situations. It's in my top 3 lip balms!

A new one that I'm in love with is the Grown Alchemist Lip Balm: Watermelon & Vanilla. This is amazing!! It smells so beautiful. You can really smell the watermelon. It's slightly oily so it really hydrates your lips. Without a doubt, I'll never be without it again.

While there's nothing incredible about the Neutrogena Naturals Lip Balm, it's affordable and it works! I've purchased this 3 times as I find it's a good one to have in my bathroom skincare bag to apply in the morning.

And finally, I adore the Lanolips Lemonaid Lip Aid. While it's not a classic lip balm, this really hydrates my lips. It also has lemon which helps to softly exfoliate my lips. This is great for when I don't want to wear lipstick but don't want bare lips either. It gives a gorgeous gloss to your lips. This is another one that I've purchased 3 or 4 times now.

And those are what I reach for when my lips are feeling dry.

What is your holy grail lip balm?
Amy, XO

PS How awesome is the Carmex limited edition packaging!!

  1. I also hate tub-based balms as I hate having stuff under my fingernails! I am a Lucas' PawPaw ointment devotee, it's the best for the overnight soak!

    1. Ahhh yes!!! It's soooo gross having it get underneath your fingernails.

  4. Oooh! Sounds like I need to try the Mecca stuff. I love my People for Plants lip balm in Vanilla - one of the best things I ever got in the mail.

    1. How could I have forgotten about the PFP lip balm!! I've bought 3 of them as they're so lovely. They have such a creamy and silky texture.

  5. I've been a Carmex user since my late teens, I can't seem to go past it, although lately I've been using some paw paw ointment from Natralus & that has done the trick as well, provided it's not too windy outside (for me, lip balms disappear faster in that sort of weather for some reason). I alternate between the 2 of them during the day, but for a nighttime treatment my HG is Bite Beauty's Agave Lip Mask. Seriously good, seriously yummy smelling (smells like Macca's chocolate fudge sundae), quite thick & it leaves my lips feeling soft in the morning. Only bummer is it's hard to squeeze out of the tube at this time of year + the coating on the tube starts to flake off after a while & gets all over your hands. Other than that, I can't recommend it enough.

    1. I've heard some great things about the Bite Beauty Mask. I need to order it next time I do an online purchase. I have their lip scrub which is great for the days that I want to wear lipstick.

It's funny how every teen seemed to use either Carmex or Paw Paw at school. I think it's a lot different now ;)
