Why You Should Always Take Off Your Mascara

Sunday 18 March 2012

Other than the fact that it will dry out, flake and go all over your face, you should always take off your mascara before going to bed - no matter how late it is! When you're asleep, or sleepy, you are more likely to rub your eyes and get your mascara and eyeliner/shadow in your eyes. This will not only hurt, but also can make your skin sensitive. It can also give you an eye infection. Also you don't want to ruin your pillow cases!

But the biggest factor in why you should take your mascara off is ...

Because it can damage your eyelashes!

If you want healthy, strong and long eyelashes, you need to take off your mascara. When you take off your mascara, it gives them time to breathe and repair itself.

Waterproof mascara will dry out your lashes over time. So if you use a waterproof formula, make sure you remove it at the end of the day

So tonight remember to remove your mascara!

  1. I did last night:) Some days when I know I will finish late I don't even apply mascara because I know I will be so tired that cleansing my face is enough. :)

  2. For such a long time i didnt wipe off my make up before bed. Bad i know- but i think....wait i know it did some real damage to my eyelashes. The side i sleep on the eyelashes are so curly/pressed they now curl back and touch my eyelid. This makes it so hard to apply eyeliner and false lashes. Since making sure to have all my make up off before bed my eye lashes are very very very slowly returning to normal!

  3. I love that my Shu Uemura cleansing oil takes off everything! Nothing worse than going to bed and waking up with panda eyes!

  4. I use Physicians Formula Organic Wear mascara because it keeps them from being too damaged and once I take it off at night, I use coconut oil on my lashes and lash line a few times a week. It's magical, really - keeps them in great condition! :)

    1. I've never used coconut oil on my eyelashes. I'll have to try it out :) Thanks for the tip!

  5. I haven't removed my mascara before bed for years and my eyelashes are perfectly fine. I think it's important to remove other makeup that clogs your facial pores such as foundation but wearing mascara to bed really doesn't hurt at all. There are very rare cases where people have gotten eye infections but you are just as likely to get eye infections wearing mascara in the day time as you are when you wear it to bed so that's not a very valid reason to take it off :)

    1. You must have very strong lashes. I find mine get weak if I leave mascara on them.
