Sydney IMATS Haul Part 1: Lime Lily Cosmetics

Sunday, 30 September 2012

One of the stands from IMATS was Lime Lily. Last year I was introduced to the brand via Lust Have It. Before then I had never heard about them.

They were selling their make up and also their make up accessories like clear make up bags, make up brushes, empty bottles and jars (which are perfect for travelling), sponges, powder puffs and disposable eye and lip applicators.

They had their eyeshadows and blushes on sale for $4.50. You can buy them online for $8.00. I decided to get a "4 Hole Professional Palette" and get 3 eye shadows and 1 powder blush. The palettes sold for $6.50 there.

My colours are very simple, as I don't wear bright colours.

"Enchanted" is a beautiful shimmery pale pinky apricot.
"Dragonfly" is a shimmery browny grey.
"Buffalow" is a gorgeous shimmery chocolate brown.

I picked these eyeshadows so that I could use them together for a smokey eye, or use separately.

"Marshmallow" is a gorgeous apricot pink powdered blush.

They were also selling small clear make up bags for only $3.00. I didn't really need it, but it's useful for travelling.

Lime Lily are a great brand that don't contain sulphates, parabens or artificial fragrance. They also don't test on animals.

You can see their range here

Finally my last purchase from them is something I had heard about before but never had seen in person. The Kuu Konjac Sponge is a 100% natural sponge that contains no fragrances or dyes so it's perfect for sensitive skin. It helps to balance the acidity of the skins impurities. You can either use this by itself (just add water and massage onto your skin) or use a small amount of your cleanser with it. The great thing about it, is that when you massage the sponge on your skin it exfoliates the dead skin cells away.

There are 3 types of the sponges. The white one I bought is for normal skin. The Red Clay is for dry and sensitive skin. The Green Clay is for combination to oily skin. They were selling this for $4.50.

Makeup And Macaroons has a great review on it, with fantastic pictures of the sponge before and after use.

Have you used Lime Lily products before? What about the Kuu Konjac sponge?

Want It Wednesday: Bobbi Brown Pink Peony Set

Wednesday, 26 September 2012

Every October, companies releases limited edition products in pink to help raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Previously I've bought a pink GHD, Palmers Cocoa Butter Body Lotion, and (many) bottles of Spring Water.

The brands donate anything from a few cents to thousands of dollars. For example, QantasLink donates $1.00 from every customer that flies with them in October.

This year I want the Bobbi Brown Pink Peony Set.

Source

The set contains a beautiful Illuminating Bronzer and Mini Face Blender Brush. The brush is perfect for your make up bag when you're on the go or travelling.

It's limited edition and will cost $70 in Australia. $14.00 will be donated to the NBCF. So not only will you be getting something beautiful for yourself, you'll be helping a worthy cause.

Check out the list of pink products available this year here.

Is there anything on the list you'll be buying?
XO

PS Check out Sophie from Born To Buy who started doing Want It Wednesdays too. Her pick is something I haven't tried, but now want to!

Rave: Burts Bees Sensitive Eye Cream Review

Tuesday, 25 September 2012

Source

I've only just recently become aware of the skin around my eyes. Since having my daughter I now have bags under my eyes and get dark circles. Previously, I never had that. While I'm still (relatively) young, my main eye concern isn't about wrinkles (yet) but more about making the skin look plumper and more awake.

A while ago I recieved the Burts Bees Sensitive Eye Cream as a magazine GWP. I was using a Natio eye gel (which I loved) and waited till I finished that before starting this. I've been using the Burts Bees cream for around 2 or 3 weeks now, and I really like it.

Because it's made for sensitive skin, you don't get the stinging that sometimes happens. I find it's more likely to happen after my night cleansing once I've gotten rid of the eye make up and mascara, but have never had irritation issues with this.

I like that it helps to give the delicate skin around my eyes moisture but it doesn't contain anything that will make it irritate.

One thing that has really impressed me is the fact that it's light. I've found with other eye creams, they've made the skin around the eyes break out with milia. But I have not had any issues with this, even though I use it both day and night.

I would recommend this for anyone that's interested in using an eye cream, but isn't looking for a anti aging eye cream.

Do you use an eye cream? What would you suggest I try next time?
XO

PS I normally like to take my own photos, but it's been one of those days and I can't be bothered transferring pictures from my camera to the computer.

While this was a gift with purchase (essentially a freebie), I paid for the magazine myself. All thoughts and views are completely my own, and are always 100% honest. See my disclosure policy here.

Ecostore Rose & Cardamon Body Wash

Monday, 24 September 2012

Body washes seem to be something I either love, or just forget to use. I normally use an exfoliating glove in the shower and lather up with soap before shaving, so sometimes a body wash feel like an extra step that I can't be bothered with some mornings.

When I do use a body wash it HAS to not only smell amazing, but also moisturise.

Lately I've been loving the Ecostore body wash, because it not only moisturises my skin, but contains no nasty chemicals like SLS, dyes, petrochemicals or perfumes.

Instead to fragrant it, they use essential oils. They also use mineral and plant based ingredients instead of chemicals. The Rose & Cardamon scent is a mild scent, so it won't be too overpowering on your skin, or in the shower.

Another great thing about them is that they don't test on animals!

The 400ml bottle will last ages, because you only need a small amount, even for your whole body. All you do is lather it up in a cloth (or I love an exfoliating glove) and a little bit goes a long way. I like the design of the bottle as well. It's easy to use and is foolproof for when you've got your hands busy with cloths, loofahs or gloves.

Ecostore was born in New Zealand back in 1993. They couldn't find easily accessible house cleansers and body products that didn't contain toxins. It was extremely important to them to have safe products for their family, and so they started creating their own. I love small businesses that start "organically" (from a personal need).

Check out their website here for more information about their story and product range. Next I want to get their baby range for my daughter, since her skin is quite sensitive and easily gets irritated from most baby products.

Does it matter to you what ingredients are in your body and skincare products?
XO

I was kindly sent this for consideration. All thoughts and views are completely my own, and are always 100% honest. See my disclosure policy here

Priceline "Pout Day" with Boujois

Friday, 21 September 2012

Today I attended the Priceline Guinness World Records official attempt for the largest make up class, in Martin Place. It was open to everyone, and there was a really great turnout.

The Priceline Tent

The tent where it was held was electric with excitement.  Not only did we get a little goodie bag of Bourjois products, but we were given a 10 minute make up class using the products.

The tent filling up with excitement (and people!)

Before starting the masterclass, they did a mini interview with 3 beauty editors from ACP magazines (who are in conjunction with Priceline in the 30 Days of Fashion & Beauty). They were asked what is your must have beauty item. Concealer and an eyelash curler were a must have for them. Also choosing 2 different concealers for under eyes and blemishes. They have different issues, so you should be using a brightening one for your eyes and something that's creamy to help cover blemishes. If you use a brightening concealer on your blemishes, it will just highlight them.

When talking about trends, we know brights are still big, but it's moving up to your eyes. If colourful eyeshadow scares you, then slowly move into colour with a colourful eyeliner.

Another great tip I picked up, was instead of wasting your money on colourful bobby pins, just use your nail polish to paint your normal bobby pins. It's such a great tip, ONLY if you can find your bobby pins. (Does anyone else have trouble finding them? I swear there's a bobby pin fairy that steals them at night.)

Stands full of amazing Bourjois products

Now onto the Bourjois goodie bag...

This included everything we needed to participate in the event. There was a cute mirror, so we could see what we were doing. Blush ("Rose d'Or") which we could apply on our cheeks, but also use as an eyeshadow. The "Volume Glamour Ultra Black Mascara" helped our lashes to be VaVaVoom. And finally to perfect our pout I had The Sweet Kiss Naturel in "Rose Delicat."

Celebrating completing the make up class
There were 261 people that participated, helping to break the record.

It's official! We broke the record!

One fantastic part of the event, was when Bourjois donated $20,000 to the Look Good Feel Good charity.

Bourjois presenting a $20,000 cheque to
the "Look Good Feel Good" charity.

And here are some swatches of the products.

On the left, there's a light swatch of the blush. It's a beautiful pink with gold shimmer. On the right there is a light and heavy swatch of the lipstick. It's so moisturising!

I was sitting next to the beautiful Tram who blogs over at The-Beautifool. Check out her blog, as she is not only a fantastic blogger (who just blogged about blue eyeliner) but is also such a sweet person!

Did you participate in the day? Have you or are you going to any of the events? I'll be at the beauty editor sessions at Martin Place today, so come back tomorrow for a wrap up of that.

Want It Wednesday: Inika Blush in Peachy Keen

Wednesday, 19 September 2012

Source

This weeks want is a blush. I've gone a bit blush mad in the last few weeks, and this one caught my attention.

I normally go for pinks and this one is more of a peachy pink. It has a gorgeous golden shimmer in it, so you can skip highlighter.

See swatches here for a great review on it and here for a closer look at the golden shimmer.

What are you wanting this week?

Rave: Pacifica Indian Coconut Nectar Perfume

Tuesday, 18 September 2012

I seem to go in phases with perfume. I either love it, or choose to wear perfumed body lotion instead. This way I get the fragrance, without it being overkill. When I became a mum I realised how much perfumes could effect my daughter. One day when she was playing with her grandpa, she had a reaction from his aftershave. Since then I've been careful with what I use, and where I spray it (Never on my neck, where she will snuggle into).

Lately I've been loving perfume again, after my love affair with body lotion got old. My favourite one is a coconut perfume from Pacifica. It has a mix of coconut and vanilla that's sweet, but doesn't leave me smelling like cake batter!!

The scent lasts ALL day, but it's never overpowering or offensive. I can still smell it on my wrists at the end of the day and it still smells beautiful.

The bottle is really cute. It's not too big or bulky, so it can still fit in your handbag.

It's also available in a roll on perfume or a solid perfume in a tin, which is perfect for travelling and airline liquid restrictions. In the range there is also body washes and body butters. In some of the scents, they also have soy candles and diffusers for the home. You can see the different scents here. Beware, there are a LOT of amazing scents.

For $29.95 you get 29mls, which will last quite a while because you only need a spray or two. You can buy it here.

It's 100% vegan and they don't test on animals.

Next I want to try their Gardenia and Jasmine ranges. They sound gorgeous and will be perfect for spring time!

What's your favourite smell? Do you wear the same perfume, or do you like to mix it up?
XO

PS Check out my tips on how to look after your perfume here

I was kindly sent this for consideration. All thoughts and views are completely my own, and are always 100% honest. See my disclosure policy here.

TAG: 10 Products I Would Repurchase

Sunday, 16 September 2012

Sophie from Dont Stop Buying tagged me to do a popular TAG thats been making the rounds on YouTube and blogs. It's about losing ALL of your make up ...EKKKK!!! Remind me to insure it ;)... and what are the 10 products you would buy first to start up your collection again.

Here are my 10 must have products.

Natio "Skin Brightening Face Balm"
This is a fantastic multi purpose product. It's a great moisturiser. It also contains green tea to give your skin a boost of antioxidants and chamomile helps to calm skin down, which is great if you're like me who deals with redness. I also use it as an alternative to a primer. It helps to smooth the canvas (aka my face), but it doesn't feel like a mask like some primers do. I try not to use silicone primers too much as I find it makes me skin get congested.

Bourjois "Healthy Mix Foundation"
This is my holy grail foundation. Not only does it work amazingly, it can rival foundations that are two or three times its price! It also lasts ages, and is so buildable.

Trish McEvoy "Beauty Emergency Card For Eyes"
I think it would be impossible to just pick one eyeshadow, so this palatte would be perfect! It is REALLY light and thin. It contains a mixture of matte and shimmer eyeshadows. There are 8 colours, and you can even use 1 for eyebrows.

Models Prefer "Eyebrow Pencil"
I love this dual ended eyebrow pencil. On one side you have the colour to fill in your eyebrows, and the other has the spoolie (eyebrow brush) to get those unruly eyebrows back to looking polished!

MeMeMe Cosmetics Blush Me! Blush Box in "Pink"
These are such gorgeous blushes. My favourite is the pink. It gives you a gorgeous colour and is perfect for building up to a dark colour, depending on your skintone. The brush that's in the box is really great quality too!

Natio Mineral Powder Bronzer And Enhancer in "Warm Day"
I adore the highlighter in this duo. It's a powder so it's much easier to apply than a cream, especailly if you're in a hurry. I've had mine for quite a while and still have a LOT left. It really lasts ages. They've discountinued it, so if you see it get it!! It will change your life!

Revlon Colorstay "Aqua Mineral Foundation" Powder
I ADORE this! It has the strangest feeling because when you apply it, it feels almost wet. But it gives you such a beautiful finish. And the wet feeling goes away very quickly.

Lanolips "Lemonaid Lip Aid"
This is my all time favourite lip product. Not only does it exfoliate your lips, it moisturises and gives the nicest sheen. It also smells beautiful. If the shops were out of this, which isn't surprising considering it's fantanstic, then I would instead go for ModelCo Shine Ultra Lip Gloss in Berry Pink.

Ecotools "Bamboo 6 Piece Brush Set"
Of course you knew I would have to include brushes!!! What's the point of having products if you have no way of applying them. This set has a Blush Brush, Eye Shading Brush, Angled Eyeliner Brush, Concealer Brush, Lash & Brow Groomer.

Real Techniques "Core Collection" 4 Piece Brush Set
Reach Technique's brushes are great value for money. You're getting a brush that's designed by a person who knows a thing or two (hundred) about make up.... Pixiewoo's Samantha Chapman. It's made from Taklon which is 100% cruelty free. The set includes a Buffing Brush for full coverage foundation, a Pointed Foundation Brush which is also a great concealer brush because of its size, a Contour Brush to use with the Natio highlighter and a precision Detailer Brush for lips or concealing small spots.

Thanks to Sophie for tagging me. Check out Spohie's answers here. Also check out Lizzi's hilarious answers here

What 10 products would you repurchase? Comment below, or leave a link to your YouTube vid or blog if you've already done the post.

Beauty On A Budget: Bourjois GWP @ Priceline September 2012

Saturday, 15 September 2012

This fortnights Priceline catalogue is full to the brim with GWPs! Check it out here. Nude By Nature, Garnier, Savvy By DB, Revlon, Almay, Sally Hansen, Natio, Dermablend, Doctor Lewinn and Innoxa all have GWPs.

But the GWP I'm bringing you today is from Bourjois. I love their products, and they always do a great GWPs.

When you spend $25 or more, you're eligible to get THIS!

A Volume Glamour Max Definition Mascara in Max Black (51)
Smokey Eyes Trio Eyeshadow in Rose Ingenu (05)
So Laque Nail Polish in Magenta (43)

It comes in a cute pink and white striped make up case. I love that it's a plastic case (they seem to last much longer than fabric ones).

To be eligible for this, I purchased the 10 Days Nail Enamel in 25 and Sweet Kiss Lipstick in Rose Corset (46).

I want to start getting back into paiting my nails, and thought this would be great since you can get up to 10 days use from it. It has a pro-silicium formula which strengthens the nails and protects them. I haven't used this before, but have heard that it really does live up to its claims if you do touch ups every few days.

I haven't tried their lipsticks before, but love their lip glosses. Rose Corset is a pink peachy colour. Sadly the one I picked up was damaged. The tip has been squashed into the lid and broke off :(

I love the packaging. You push up the silver round button on the side and it releases the lipstick. The lipstick looks quite sophisticated in the silver tube.

Get into Priceline quick to pick this up. It won't last long!

My tips on what to pick up has to be the Healthy Mix Foundation (it's my Holy Grail foundation) and they have beautiful blushes.

Did you get one? Otherwise, what did you pick up from the current catalogue.

TAG: My Make Up History

Thursday, 13 September 2012

I was tagged by The Made Up Maiden to do this post on my make up history. I hope you like it and if you do it, please link the post in the comments below!

1. How long have you been wearing makeup?

Since I was a teen. At school we had a strict make up policy, and wasn't supposed to wear it. But we got away with tinted moisturiser, mascara and a lip balm. I think this is the reason why I prefer a simple "no make up" make up look even now.

2. What was your favourite makeup product in the beginning?

I've always loved lip products. Lip Smackers and The Body Shop lip balms were the IT things when I was younger. Also I was obsessed with TBS vanilla perfume.

3. What is your favourite makeup product now?

I still adore lip products, but I also really love a scented body lotion.  My favourite has to Jurlique's Jasmine Body Care Lotion. It smells amazing and the scent lasts all day without being overpowering. I also adore MOR products.

4. What were some of your favourite brands in the beginning?

The Body Shop, Australis, Ulta 3 and Covergirl. Things are so different now. Girls in high school are buying Mac and Chanel make up, but when I was at school no girl did.

5. What are some of your favourite brands now?

I love to splash out sometimes with Dior or Chanel, but it's a rare treat. For make up I love Bourjois, Napoleon, Australis, Natio, Rimmel, Nude By Nature and Face Of Australia.

6. How would you describe your makeup 'style'?

Really simple.  Very natural and earthy. I love the chic boho look of Nicole Richie or Kate Hudson.

7. What is your everyday makeup like?

I normally have it basic with foundation, pale brown eyeshadow, mascara and a nudeish lip gloss.

8. What is your 'going out' makeup like?

I don't go out very often, but my going out make up is either darker eyes, or a bright lip. I'll also put on highlighter and blush.

9. What makeup look are you known for?

Not really any "look" but all my friends know no matter what we will do (even if its lounging around) I'll always have make up on and a cute dress.

10. What is the worst beauty crime you have committed?

Sleeping with my make up on. Which I barely ever do anymore. I think I've done it once in about 4 months. Also brushing my hair when it's wet.

11. What is the worst beauty crime you are proud to have not committed?

Hmmm, I think I have committed every beauty sin :(

12. What is a trend you were part of but now aren't a fan of?

Hmmm, it's not that I'm not a fan of it anymore, but I think the black smokey eye look. It just doesn't work with my skintone.
I love it on others though. I do love a brown smokey eye though.

13. What is one trend you are proud to say you were never part of?

Hmmmm i guess the Jersey Shore look. Plastic, orange and OTT.

14. What is one look you will never ever go for?

Goth, because I'm too pale for black.

15. If you were brave enough to wear any look, what would you go for?

I'd love to have colourful hair.

16. An old HG product of yours?

Fudge 1 Shot leave in conditioner. It's the best leave in conditioner I've ever used.

17. A current HG product of yours?

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation. I love it! Also Lanolips Lemonaid. And MeMeMe do an amazing pink blush.

Source

Review: Almay One Coat Get Up And Grow Mascara

Monday, 10 September 2012

Source

I'm the Goldilocks of mascaras. Finding my Holy Grail mascara has been a long (and expensive) task. I have tried many brands and many formulas, but haven't  yet found my one true love mascara.

Last week I tried the Almay "One Coat Get Up and Grow" mascara. I received this in one of my Beauty Box Subscriptions. I had heard great things about it and had high expectations.

Sadly from the very first use, it did NOT gel with my lashes. I used it 5 times before giving up.

Each time I used it I had smudging below my eyes. It didn't matter how long I waited for it to dry, it kept smudging. Now I never put mascara on my bottom lashes, so it was really frustrating that it kept smudging from my top lashes.

Oddly enough, only once did I have smudging above my top lashes.

I wear glasses so I'm not sure if this attributed to the smudging. The mascara that was sent in my beauty box wasn't a waterproof formula either, so this may have also increased the smudge factor.

I liked the brush and the effect of the mascara on my lashes, but the smudge issue is something I can't handle in a mascara, no matter how amazing it makes my lashes look.

I'm really disappointed that it didn't work for me. I normally love Almay products and was hoping this would become my HG!

Have you tried this mascara? Did you find yourself in smudgeville too?

What mascara would you suggest I try next?

Rave: Natio Rich Colour Creme Gloss in Alive

Thursday, 6 September 2012

I've been a huge fan of Natio for a long time now. They do great skincare and beautiful body products. They've been really great at keeping up with make up trends too.

One of their latest make up releases was the Rich Colour Creme Gloss, which is all about intense and pigmented colour in a glossy finish. There are 5 shades in the range.

Alive is a cherry red
Calm is a mauve pink
Serene is a nude pink
Happy is a vibrant rose
Passion is a deep berry red

Today I have "Alive" for you which is a cherry red.

I had so much trouble capturing the colour, but in the tube it's more red and less orange than the above picture!

Firstly the colour is gorgeous. You can build up the intensity to either make it a soft red or really pack it on for a bright PUNCH of colour. Yep, I needed the caps lock to really emphasis how much "Alive" can pop.

To tone down the colour I firstly apply a plain lip balm to moisturise the lips but also provide a barrier so the colour can't sink in or stain the lips (I do this with a lot of lipsticks and glosses). This technique gives you a light colour on the lips. It's perfect for anyone that wants to try a bold colour but is too scared to go full on. Making it a sheer glossy colour gives you time to get used to the brighter colour.

Top, applied 3 coats
Bottom, applied 1 coat

If I want intensity, I apply the colour and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before applying another layer on. This helps to build up the colour without the lipgloss being too goopy or tacky. And if I STILL want bolder lips then I add on another layer 5-10 minutes after applying my second layer.

The great thing with this lipgloss is that you can achieve a bright bold lip without getting dry lips. It contains mango and shea butter, honey and vitamin E to soften and moisturise your lips. It also has a slight sweet smell that is gorgeous but not overpowering.

Natio are Australian made and don't test on animals, which is always a nice thing. These lipglosses are $15.95 and are available at Myer and David Jones.

I was kindly sent this for consideration. All thoughts and views are completely my own, and are always 100% honest. See my disclosure policy here.

How To: Getting Rid Of Bacne and Body Acne

Wednesday, 5 September 2012

In Australia, spring started last week. With the warmer weather starting, it usually means that we start to show more skin. This can be a scary thought when you suffer from body acne.

Read on for tips on how to control it...

Use a body wash that contains salicylic acid. These body washes help to clean bacteria from the skin and help with body breakouts. Neutrogena, Oxy, Pro Active and Clearasil do great body washes. If you're on a very tight budget, use your current face wash if it contains salicylic acid.

Wash your hair over a basin. Conditioner washing onto your body, especially your neck and back, can be heavy and lead to break outs.

If you have acne on hard to reach spots like your back, use a spray or a make up pad that can help with those odd places. Murad and Clinique both do a great spray, while Clearasil do a make up pad that can make getting those tricky parts easier.

Exfoliate your skin regularly to stop pores becoming clogged.

Zinc is fantastic for combating the bacteria that causes acne, so take a zinc vitamin.

Make sure your sheets and PJs are clean. Get out of your sweaty work out clothes as soon as possible. If you cant, use a baby wipe or make up wipe to keep the skin clean.

Look for clothing, like cotton, that is breathable. This will help, especially on a hot day. Also use a clothes detergent that is free perfumes. Do a 2nd rinse to make sure there is no left over detergent that can aggravate your skin.

If you can afford it, a back facial at a spa is great since they can get to your whole back (which you can't unless you're a contortionist!)

The cooler months are also the perfect time to treat the acne. Remember it's never to early or late to get ready for the warmer weather.

Hope this helps!
