First Impression: Pantene Beautiful Lengths "Strengthening Shampoo & Conditioner" Review

Sunday 19 May 2013

I've been using hair dye since I was in my early teens, and bleach for the last 6 or so years.

In the 15 or so years that I've been dyeing my hair (and sometimes actually making it feel like it's dying!) I've created a lot of damage and dryness for my hair.

Recently I was sent the new Pantene Beautiful Lengths *Shampoo and *Conditioner to try. I've been using Pantene on and off since I was a teen. I've loved the brand for this long because not only is it affordable, they have great treatments. A Pantene masks was actually one of the first masks that I ever used. They had a 3 minute mask, and it was fantastic for a high school student earning about $6 an hour. As a teen I also used to love the VO5 hot oil treatments.

The Beautiful Lengths range is for those of us who have damaged, weakened hair. It strengthens hair with its Pro-V Keratin formula. If you're wanting to grow your hair longer, or treat your long hair, then this is a great budget product.

Because I had applied argan oil to my hair the previous night, I shampooed my hair twice to first get rid of product build up and then secondly clean the hair. I then applied the conditioner for about 3-4 minutes.

They didn't feel heavy on the hair, or too hard to wash out like some creamy moisturising hair products can.

I also applied the Toni & Guy "Reconstruction Mask" for 4-5 minutes. I had used this once before and was slightly disappointed. It didn't make my hair feel soft or smooth after using it.

But because the shampoo and conditioner was so moisturising, I found that it really complimented the mask.

After washing my hair, I applied a spray leave in conditioner and brushed through my hair with my tangle teaser. The brush went through my hair easily and without knots.

I let my hair airdry and found it so incredibly soft and silky once it was dry. Even without applying a hair oil my hair wasn't a frizz ball.

I'm quite a restless sleeper, and woke up the next day with hair all over the place, so I wet my hair in the shower, and then air dried it. I applied a leave in conditioner spray and some argan oil and found on even the second day that my hair was so incredibly soft and smooth. I had minimal frizz (which is unlike my normal hair) and my hair didn't feel heavy or oily.

Today (my third day hair), I applied the Pantene Deep Fortifying Treatment onto the ends of my hair as my hair was a matted mess after my sleep. I have a habit of applying a conditioner to the ends when my hair feels dry or matted, instead of washing it. I love this treatment conditioner, as it's moisturising, but not too heavy.

My third day hair is still soft and silky, but some of the ends are getting frizzy.

Overall, I'm really impressed with the Beautiful Lengths Shampoo and Conditioner. It's a great supermarket bargain that has left my hair feeling so soft and smooth with minimal frizz, while not feeling heavy or oily.

I'll be using this over the next few weeks and I'll update you on if it's helped the strength of my hair and the overall look and feel of it too!

What's your favourite supermarket or "drugstore" hair brand?
