(Updated) First Impressions: Revlon Nearly Naked Mineral Powder Foundation SPF 15 + a GWP

Sunday 29 September 2013

Update...

I've been using this for the last 2 days and wanted to update you on how it performs.

I used it with a BB Cream (the Innoxa BB cream, which I've previously reviewed here) and it was a match made in heaven. The BB cream is a light coverage formula and the mineral powder helped to set it for the whole day. It also gave a little bit more coverage to help hide my imperfections. Even though you could still see my uneven skin, it still looked like skin... just better!

The next day I used just the mineral powder by itself. I had a few issues when I used it. One layer looked great and was just a very light cover that helped to reduce my pink skin, without looking cakey or heavy. I tried to create a heavier coverage, and it didn't go to plan. I found that when I added on another layer it became a bit patchy... but it was just on my forehead. I tried with a different brush to buff it in, but it just wouldn't budge. I ended up using a setting spray to try and make it less patchy which did help to limit the patchy part. Once I removed the cake factor, it looked really great. It still was light coverage, but my imperfections weren't as obvious.

I'm not sure if my forehead was patchy because I haven't exfoliated in 3 days or if because it's not supposed to be a medium to full coverage mineral powder.

I'll be exfoliating tomorrow morning and I'm planning on using just the powder with a primer tomorrow to see if it's still patchy.

...

Yesterday I popped into Priceline "just to look" and of course I found many things that I wanted. There seems to be quite a few new products and I picked up one that I didn't even know existed.

Revlon recently released their Nearly Naked range, which consisted of a liquid foundation and pressed powder (I've reviewed them here), but I didn't know that they were releasing a mineral powder in the range. And when I saw it had a GWP, well... I just couldn't resist buying it.

Mineral make up is something that I've really been getting into lately. Since my skin went haywire from the pill, I've been using mineral cosmetics more and more. I try to wear it in some form everyday. It might be my primer, foundation, powder, or even my blush. I've found since using it, my skin has improved.

Since this is the first time that I used it, I can only comment on how it felt and how it worked based off of a one time use.

I applied this over the top of the Nearly Naked Liquid Foundation. I swirled my brush in the powder, tapped off the excess and then applied it by swirling the buffing brush over my skin.

The powder isn't as orange in real life... sneaky camera!

I found that this was quite soft and it quickly and easily sunk into the skin. It gave me slightly more coverage and helped to cover my uneven skintone. The Nearly Naked Liquid Foundation is a light coverage and doesn't completely conceal my uneven skintone, redness and blemishes so layering this over the top of that foundation gives slightly more coverage to my imperfections, without having to compromise on natural looking skin.

What I loved about it was the fact that it looked natural and wasn't cakey. I'm planning on trying it out by itself over the next week and also trying it out with different foundations to see how it performs.

I really hope that they release a concealer next in the range!

While I love the Nearly Naked Pressed Powder, I think that I'll most likely use this as my powder in the morning, and use the pressed powder for touch ups throughout the day.

While I love the packaging, it doesn't have a stopper in it so if you travel with this it can be a bit messy.

I haven't been able to find anything online about this... which is slightly odd. From memory, there are 4 colours. Fair, light, medium and dark, but please don't quote me on that as I may be wrong in my old age.

It retails for $29.95 here in Australia. I picked mine up at Priceline. Priceline also has buy 2 get the third free on Revlon products currently, so it's a perfect time to pick up the 3 Nearly Naked products. I also went into David Jones, but the store I went into didn't have this yet at the Revlon counter.

Priceline also has a GWP when you buy the Mineral Powder Foundation. It comes with a Revlon powder brush.

It's a really soft brush that's like a kabuki brush with a small handle. It's smaller, so it's a good brush to travel with.

The head of the brush is quite large, which makes applying the powder really quickly.

I haven't used the brush, so I can't comment on it's performance, but found the mineral powder worked well with my flat top kabuki brush.

Have you heard about this product, or is it just me that missed the memo?

  1. I haven't tried this one too but then again, I don't really use loose powders anymore (I have a grand total of 3 in my stash). This one sounds good though :)

  2. I'd be interested to see what the brush is like. The bristles look too long for it to be a good mineral foundation brush.

  3. I saw this in Priceline the other day and was really surprised as I had not heard anything about it!

  4. I also havent seen/heard anything about this product! I also have the Nearly Naked foundation and its really nice for a light coverage but I think the addition of this product to the range is really great because you're able to add a bit more coverage.

  5. A concealer would be a really nice addition to this range!

  6. I haven't heard anything about this at all! Has it even been released in America yet? It looks lovely nonetheless, do you know how it compares to other mineral powder foundations?
